Outokumpu’s Supra 316plus used for LNG tank

Finnish liquefied natural gas (LNG) tank manufacturer LNGTainer has launched a new tank which brings together two innovations – LNGTainer’s tank container and Outokumpu’s austenitic stainless steel grade, Supra 316plus. Outokumpu is a global leader in the stainless steel industry, with numerous locations throughout the Americas.

LNGTainer first considered using aluminum in the inside tank, but the Supra 316plus, according to Outokumpu, has relatively better low temperature properties compared to other similar materials.

In addition, the Supra 316plus is said to have a higher chromium and nitrogen content and less nickel and molybdenum, and is said to perform well when the temperature drops down to cryogenic temperatures.
